Artley flute company serial number#
serial number 505018 (1977) that I bought on sale around 1980 for 700. The company was owned by Conn from about 1960. I would sell one in nice condition with good pads in the 300 range. Conn-Selmer merged with the Steinway Music company in the mid-1990s. The Artley is in the same 'family' of flutes as Armstrong, Bundy, King, Henri Selmer Paris, etc. It was a part of the Conn-Selmer line based in Elkhart, Indiana (though some flutes were made in Nogales, AZ). The Wilkins model was the best they had but none had a very good headjoint. Artley is a reputable brand that is no longer in production. £150 + p&p which is a bargain for a flute of this quality. I have an Artley silver open-hole, B-key, flute- made in Nogales, Ariz. The Artleys were just regular flutes and still are although the recent ones are actually Armstrongs. It comes in a lovely case that has hardly been used so that's in a fantastic condition too.

It has a closed hol design with C foot, offset G, and Y cup arms. The flute has the typical scratches and wearing to the plating on the body that you would expect from a well used instrument and there are no major dents. This Artley silver plated flute dates to 1967.
Artley flute company professional#
As a woodwind teacher / player l would say that with the B foot and the solid silver head, this would make a good intermediate to professional level flute for anybody wishing to upgrade. Bungs are easily available if you are not keen on open holes but want to try an inline G flute (a set of bungs can cost as little as £3). Is this worth it if I have a cheap flute, or is this something that those with really nice instruments have done (leaving people with student instruments to clean their instrument themselves. From what Ive read online, it costs about 50 to have your flute tuned and cleaned. I bought it to experiment with the inline G and because I was playing material that required a low B.
